good, there's an echo.
This blog begins an ongoing but irregular rant by a professional nutritionist and healthcare professional about all the rubbish that gets touted around with regards to 'what is healthy' and the next wah wah wonder diet might save you from yourself. It really is enough to make you rant. Ahem. Yes. I started in healthcare over 25 yrs ago. It's always been my passion to get the bottom line gen and really find out what makes human beings sustainably healthy. And firmly know, from my personal and professional experience, that it can be and should be a simple instinctual thing. Of course we as human organisms are beautifully complex, particularly as we've come into the digital age, and as a result we have in great part lost our natural instincts. This is really what I'll be ranting about here. How can we reconnect to natural instinctual eating and living- so that life and eating and nourishing isn't such a bloody palaver!
Where do we begin, its a cacophony of righteousness out there. What should we discuss, raw food diets, alkaline diets, GAPs diets, DASH diets... some other acronym diet? What is the latest greatest new and improved way of trendisizing food and eating so people can make another dollar or pound out of it? Grrrr. OR worse, set themselves up as gurus. Oh please don't get me started.
The common denominator to many of these diets and thinking is the increasing trend toward bastardising food. This is not the answer. But we as a species clearly don't want to take responsibility for our behaviours or thinking so damn, it must be the food's fault. Of course we didn't pick it up and put it in our mouths, or make unwhole food choices, or gosh, who made all that processed shite in the first place. It's those the evil lizard lords from another galaxy who've come to undermine the human race. Yup, must be them.
And fair enough, it's been going on for generations now. For probably a good 30- 40 years human beings have been churning out the worst semblance of foodstuffs that inherently undermine health rather than support it--but worse, in many instances, like margarine, have been packaged and presented as food that is helping us-when it's patently not! Who runs this show, I ask. I'm really not into capital punishment but seriously, they should be shot.
And really we run the show, each one of us is the master of our own ship. We have to make the choices, we have to listen, read, become informed, and really seek for the truth. But again we've become lazy. People read and believe the newspapers, naively holding them as sources for legitimate reputable information. More painfully too, many believe and trust the government which has become just another business with primarily monetary aims rather than one that supports and protects the interests and wellbeing of its people. The web of deception and intrigue is rife.
So let me resume my focus on the food issue, around the bastardising of food and having sensitivities and intolerances and god knows. "I can't eat that, and Oh no that's won't work for me, I can't eat that either. " It's the perfect two year old behaviour power play using food to get their needs met and feel in control. Underlying is the need to be special. Specialness is a way of separating ourselves so we can get primary needs (for acknowledgement, core sponsorship, love, bonding) met because previous strategies didn't do it, or the source of our desire wasn't up for it, or there was some perceived trauma in seeking to obtain it. Yes--the psychology is driving the physiological food sensitivity behaviour--mostly unconsciously, but definitively. The real question is- when you've become so intolerant to every food under the sun, and its so hard to be nourished, or maybe you've got a whole spaaecial regime in place and everyone in your social and work circle knows this, then you really have to ask yourself who and what are you really intolerant to. But all that is just projection anyway...where is the core judgement? What quality or characteristic or need or emotion have you denied or judged in yourself? Some will say this is just too out there. But think about it. We are not a mind AND a body, we are one organism, one integral organisation of electromagnetic, chemical, physical and mental faculties that come together to form who we understand ourselves to be. And to stretch this to the upteenth degree--there is no out there, no other- there is only One here. There is one organism, call her Gaia, call her Earth call it whatever you like..but we exist within this structure, not separate from it.
So please, be honest, look at this nonsense and ask yourself of what in your own nature are you feeling intolerant, or sensitive, or feel you must reject?
I'm off to work now, with people, doing my thing. I'll try not to rant so much.
By all means, rant back- I'd love to hear what you have to say.
All blessings and gratitude for our being here
Nutritia
That's brilliant!
ReplyDeleteNo, really, it rings with truth for me. I'm surrounded by people who can't tolerate this and that food, or worse yet, follow GP's advice on what to eat and what drugs to take and are either wasting away or ballooning up, and in either case, starving...and don't get me started on supplements and "green drinks". Yet ironically I take crap from those same people for staying away from docs (hahaha) because by middle age we are all supposed to be on some kind of meds to prevent illness and pumping ourselves full of micronutrients and pro-biotics in pill form.
But then, I'm one of those weird hippy types that eat weeds :)
Nice to have stumbled upon you, hope you rant some more.
Cheers C.
